Dubai to Add Two New Salik Toll Gates to Ease Traffic Congestion

In a bid to enhance traffic management and reduce congestion on key roads, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the installation of two new Salik toll gates by November 2024. These gates will be located at the Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road, between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street.
The introduction of these toll gates is part of a broader effort to distribute traffic more effectively across the city's road network. The Business Bay Crossing gate is expected to reduce traffic on Al Khail Road by up to 15%, while the Al Safa South gate, linked with the existing Al Safa North gate, will streamline the flow of vehicles on Sheikh Zayed Road. Drivers passing through both Safa gates within an hour in the same direction will only be charged once.
These initiatives align with Dubai's Urban Plan 2040, focusing on sustainable urban growth and efficient transport solutions. The new toll gates will bring the total number of Salik gates in Dubai to ten, further supporting the city's goal of optimizing travel times and encouraging the use of alternative routes.
The RTA's decision is based on extensive traffic studies, aiming to reroute traffic to less congested corridors and improve overall mobility. Salik, the exclusive toll gate operator in Dubai, will oversee the construction, operation, and maintenance of these new gates, reinforcing its role in enhancing the city's transport infrastructure.
