Dubai’s RTA to expand Burj Khalifa – Dubai Mall Metro Station, boost capacity by 65%
Dubai’s most visited metro station — the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Station — is set for a major transformation. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Emaar Properties, has unveiled plans to significantly expand the station to handle the sharp rise in passenger traffic, especially during peak seasons and major events.

The station will undergo a complete upgrade, increasing its total area from 6,700 square metres to 8,500 square metres. The move is expected to boost its passenger handling capacity by 65%, raising it from 7,250 riders per hour to 12,320 riders per hour.
Daily capacity is projected to reach 220,000 passengers per day once the expansion is complete — a critical upgrade for one of Dubai’s busiest transport hubs, especially during events like New Year’s Eve, UAE National Day, and global exhibitions held in Downtown Dubai.
