This announcement ensures parity between public and private sectors, offering equal holiday durations across the UAE. The holiday dates follow the Islamic calendar, as Dhul Hijjah began on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, after the sighting of the crescent moon on Tuesday evening.

The Sacred History of Eid Al Adha in Islam

Eid Al Adha, also known as "Eid ul-Adha" or the "Festival of Sacrifice," is one of the two major festivals in Islam, the other being Eid Al Fitr. This blessed occasion falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and marks the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam.

🕋 The Legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (Alayhis Salaam)

The essence of Eid Al Adha is rooted in the profound story of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, peace be upon him), who was tested by Allah with an extraordinary command. In a divine dream, Prophet Ibrahim was instructed to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail (peace be upon him) — a test of absolute submission and faith.

With unwavering obedience, Prophet Ibrahim prepared to carry out Allah’s command. As he laid his son down and was about to make the sacrifice, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram from Jannah (Paradise), and a voice called out saying:

"O Ibrahim! You have fulfilled the vision." (Surah As-Saffat 37:105)

This moment became a symbol of complete submission to Allah’s will — a foundational value in Islam.

🧎‍♂️ Spiritual Significance

Eid Al Adha is more than a festival; it’s a spiritual reminder of:

  • The importance of sacrifice in the path of Allah,

  • The power of sincere faith and trust in divine wisdom,

  • The unity of the Ummah as Muslims around the world pray, sacrifice, and celebrate together.

The day begins with a special Eid prayer offered in congregation, followed by sermons that highlight the story of Prophet Ibrahim, the obligations of Qurbani, and messages of compassion and humility.

🌍 A Global Celebration

Across the globe, Eid Al Adha is marked by family gatherings, festive meals, the wearing of new clothes, and visiting the less fortunate. It’s a day of joy, gratitude, and reflection — reminding Muslims of the values of taqwa (God-consciousness), obedience, and charity.

✨ In Conclusion

Eid Al Adha is not merely a celebration — it is a living lesson of faith, sacrifice, and submission to Allah’s will. As we offer our Qurbani and raise our hands in dua, we remember the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim and strive to follow his path of sincere devotion.

"Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you."
(Surah Al-Hajj 22:37)

Eid Mubarak!
May Allah accept your sacrifices and bless you and your family with peace, barakah, and happiness.
