Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently announced the launch of the Dubai National University, a new higher education institution with an initial investment of AED 4.5 billion. The university aims to offer specialized, future-focused academic programs and intends to rank among the top 50 young universities globally within the next decade.

The creation of the university is part of Dubai’s broader strategy to become a global hub for education and scientific research, with a goal to place the emirate among the world’s top 10 education destinations. The institution will focus on fostering local talent while attracting global expertise, positioning Dubai as a leader in higher education. The university’s Emirati identity will be paired with globally relevant programs, preparing students for leadership in sectors critical to the future.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, was appointed President of the university, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, was named Vice President. The university’s establishment is also aligned with Dubai’s Social Agenda 33, which seeks to strengthen the city’s competitiveness in education and innovation on a global scale
